This weekend I accepted the fact that spring is here. I made a list in my head over and over the past few weeks of things I could work on. I've had lots of lists... but with my taxes and some other financial type things now done, I made the work list. I decided to start on the yard before it got out of hand. So.. Heres what I did (no pictures yet sorry). First I knocked of some easy things. I went around the yard picking up. It started with just some sticks, but quickly turned into me pushing a wheel barrow around with gutter parts, bottles, cans, flower pots, and a few other odds and ends. In order to feel better about all the carnage, I threw it all into the the firepit. Actually I should go out and check to see if it's still smoldering. Be right back... Ok.. it's all good. So anyhow, after picking things up I went back to one of the piles of compost that was created from the big lawn reseeding from a while back. I have an occasional sink hole in the front lawn. I dumped about 4 loads of dirt in, jumped on it a bunch, and let it sit overnight. Hmm.. what else did I do.. Oh I cut the rose bush back some. But it was too pointy to do much with. Sunday rolled around and I woke up to a brave new daylight savings world. Ah time travel. I would love to .. um.. what the heck was I going to say? I forget. Anyhow. Today I started the fire up and did some more triming of plants in the front. I also finished up the hole and put of those bendy gutter extensions on that side of the house. Looks very professional. After that I started to check around and prepare for seeding the lawn. The spots by the side of the house needed some serious weeding and cleaning. I cleared out a lot of the crab grass and got distracted by the retaining wall. Ugh.. it's been falling over a lot. so I sat down and started putting it back together. I did most of one side and went out to look in on Odie's cat. When I came back I finished up more of the wall and got to work on clearing out the ground. I pulled out all the crab crass on the side of the house by the deck. I was a little frustrated with growing grass back there because it always gets walked on. Not easy to grow when it's always getting walked on. I dug up the ground some, took some stones out from beside the shed and made a walkway. Once that was in I put down some seed and fertilizer, tossed some water and straw on it and with any luck. I will have a nice grassy patch with walkway in no time at all. Wish me luck! | |
