I tend to take a break in the winter but that's all gone. With the first weekend of March there came lovely weather. Inside I sat pondering what I would do. I made a list of several things I could do. I was going to tell you what was on the list but I um... can't find it. Sunday I got right on it and started with the hole in the front yard. There's this spot right in front of my flower bed in front of the house that seems sort of like a sink hole. A guy from the town came out to look at it and said that it was most likely a cistern from a previous structure. When water runs along the concrete sides of it, dirt gets washed away. This was compounded when the gutters were redone and they moved the downspouts from the porch to the corners of the house. I have no idea why they did that but it resulted in the water running right at the hole area. last fall the whole came back though not as deep as it had been before. Step one was getting the wheel barrow. Sadly it was filled with mulch and rain water and leaves, which of course smelled like sewage. I dumped that onto the peach tree and rolled around to the front. I dug down some and set the dirt aside. With a 3 loads of rocks dumped into the now bigger hole, I pushed the old dirt in and went around to find some more good dirt. I cleared out quite a bit from behind the shop and some more from back by the garden. I think that it should be good for now. Not terribly pretty but it will work. I came in, collapsed on the couch and told Jul that I forgot how tiring that could be. He found it amusing that I somehow forgot that shoveling dirt and rocks for an hour and a half was tiring. Good point Jul. |
