That old sweet song - 5/14/07

There's been a few times when I decided I've wanted to get fruit trees. Initially I had thought it would be nice to have them along the driveway. Someone pointed out that apples falling on the car would be a bad thing. Next I thought it would be nice to put one on the side of the house. Unfortunately there were too many large trees that would block the light. So I finally decided that I would take out the two bushes beside the deck and replace them with two fruit trees. This was a good plan until I realized that the size of the trees available wouldn't work in the area I had established. With that in mind I went to the store with Jul in search of some more interesting bushes than what was there before.
I found something rather surprising. A dwarf peach tree. Fruit trees come in various sizes dwarf as you might guess... is small. Another thing about fruit trees is that they often require two trees in order to have them bear fruit. this is because of the need to pollinate the trees properly. This little peach was self pollinating, so no need for 2. At the moment it looks a bit like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree, but I think it will turn out well. I have a second tree in mind for the corner spot. But that's another story for another time.
