Parallel Parking
This post was partially finished when I was updating the version of my blog software. Silly me. Somewhere in the mess, it posted. I wasn’t able to get in to unpost it or make the changes until now. But here it is. Enjoy.

So one of my favorite activities downtown is to sit at The Rivermill behind the tinted windows and observe people trying to parallel park. I was there today with some new friends and while we were talking his gaze out the window showed that he was definitely distracted by something. Out the window was a very large Escalade, with a very well put together woman behind the wheel. Or at least she appeared to be from the neck up. After sharing with him that this was in fact a hobby of mine we all turned and watched.
Back and forth she rolled.
One wheel on the curb.
Almost hitting the meter.
Front wheel stuck against the curb.
Forward again.
Two wheels up.
Back one down.
Front wheel down, back wheel up.
Almost backing into a car.
Done.
As she exited her car, we were too sucked in to the whole game to stop watching. Her clothing could be described as some sort of athletic compression something or other. We proceeded to guestimate at age and such…
How old was she. Late 40s
How old did she want you to think she was. Early 30s
Wait do I know her? no… wait… well…. no
I bet she’s here for the Republican Headquarters right behind her
Escalades are a good Right wing vehicle
Wait do I know her? ….. no
Across the street she walked. Wait what? Is she coming in here?
Yes. She came into the bar and started talking to us.
wait what?
How was my parking?
Did I do ok?
That was a tough spot but it helped to have an audience.
You still have a wheel on the curb
I do?
I think so. But it’s hard to tell. I wasn’t looking very closely.
Do you think I’ll get a ticket for that?
Should be fine I think.
I should move it. Yeah I’m going to move it.
Ok is this really happening? What is she doing here? There was no one for her to meet. Out she went to move the car.
Oh crap she’s going to back into that car.
Stop STOP
ok… she’s going forward. Crap! she’s going back again.
STOP!!
ok.. she’s good
Back in she came.
That’s better
Yep looks good
I bet you thought I was going to back into that car.
I have one of those reverse cameras.
I bet you were scared!
Naw you were close but we thought you’d be fine.
She then walked off. Didn’t order food, or a beer. Just walked to the back of the bar where the pool tables were. Looking for the bathroom maybe? No… Who knows.
I guess the windows aren’t as dark as I always thought that they were. Huh.
- Not a lot here, perhaps that will change
