Hi Mr Paxton
I never called you Pax, Vinnie, or Jim, always Mr Paxton.
You were sick long ago. Very sick. I remember seeing you in the hospital and waiting by your bed while he slept. You woke up and asked me what I was doing there. Looked so tired but did your best to make me feel better. I’ve been sick. A lot actually. Hospitals, beds, bathroom floors, hotel rooms, cars, ambulances, apartments, dorm rooms. I hate the people I care about having to see me like that. My friends, my family, my doctors. That’s the worst part of it all. It sucks.
You got better.
So did I.
Living is hard.
It takes courage.
I don’t know how to do it.
But I will live forever.
If I am loved the way you are.
Mr Paxton, my teacher, my friend, my counselor, my role model.
You’re a part of us all. Now and forever.
I’m a goofy bastard.
A hard worker.
A compassionate man.
A teacher
I laugh.
I cry.
I have wonderful friends.
The last time I saw you you told me that you were going to retire.
You said you couldn’t connect to the kids anymore.
But you have
You silly bastard
You connected with us.
And we connect with our friends,
Our family,
Our children,
Our students,
Our music.
We are here.
We are your friends,
Your family,
Your children,
Your students,
Your music.
Hi Mr Paxton.
I’ve missed seeing you.
But you’re always here.
