The New Plan

Remember how I did NoSpend November last year? Well this year I decided to try it in December. There are a couple of reasons for this shift. First of all I had a vacation planned already for November so I didn't want to skimp on it since vacations for me are so rare. The other reason is that while last November was difficult (primarily because of football season) it wasn't as big a stretch to pull off. Christmas is a big spending time and I found that instead of really saving on holiday spending, it could have been differed. So is it really no spend? Tough call.

So this time I figured I would get back into the blogging habit by No Change November showing you what happens in a typical month for me. I will do my best to be realistic about it and not restrict my spending out of shame since you're watching! The only noted difference is that I am not allowing Christmas presents to get stockpiled a head of time. A benefit of this activity is for me to see how well I can track my spending. In this age of digital payments I rarely look at bank accounts or credit card statements. Lets see how it goes!

Day 25: Turkey Lurkey

Today is Thanksgiving and it's very unlikely that I will do any spending, so I will update this one early. Last night I reauthorized the Tivo here and so we're watching the Black Stallion now while we wait for dinner to cook. I helped by preparing some acorn squash that JP gave me a while back. We're going to toast the seeds when the oven frees up too.

I'd just like to point out that I am horrible about tracking spending when I am doing so much of it. During a no spend month it's pretty easy, there's ups and downs and very low numbers in general. I keep losing receipts, credit card charges don't post very quickly. It's a real pain. I suppose it's a good thing that spending puts a bad taste in my mouth. It's easy for me to stop if I want to but ugh. All this counting. Look at those bars drop. The page that I use to make this one reads from a copy last years data file. It's interesting to see how little was spent and how much I still was able to do. This year on Thanksgiving I was up $41.57 today I'm down over 1360. I've spent over 32 times more than I saved last year!
