The New Plan

Remember how I did NoSpend November last year? Well this year I decided to try it in December. There are a couple of reasons for this shift. First of all I had a vacation planned already for November so I didn't want to skimp on it since vacations for me are so rare. The other reason is that while last November was difficult (primarily because of football season) it wasn't as big a stretch to pull off. Christmas is a big spending time and I found that instead of really saving on holiday spending, it could have been differed. So is it really no spend? Tough call.

So this time I figured I would get back into the blogging habit by No Change November showing you what happens in a typical month for me. I will do my best to be realistic about it and not restrict my spending out of shame since you're watching! The only noted difference is that I am not allowing Christmas presents to get stockpiled a head of time. A benefit of this activity is for me to see how well I can track my spending. In this age of digital payments I rarely look at bank accounts or credit card statements. Lets see how it goes!

Day 21: Matilda's Decree

Our last day in Asheville was spent downtown. We ate at the much acclaimed Tupelo Honey. There was a very long wait so we got a Sprite and a bag of chips from a hot dog vendor while we walked around and checked out the shops. Once the flashy pager went off we headed in. I liked mine but Anna's gimongous french toast was not a high point. A little more wandering took us to some more shops. Anna found some presents for people back home and I picked up some chocolate and 2 basket weaving kits (since I am always lacking in things to do). The drive home resulted in a strange detour. For some reason Matilda (my gps) took us off of 26 before we arrived at 81. This was not the way we came to Asheville so I am not sure what was up. After stopping at a gas station (Anna bought us twizzlers) we decided it would be ok and kept going. And what to my wondering eyes did appear, but the Bristol Motor Speedway and crazy lights!! I vaguely remembered hearing of this before so we made a U-turn and got in line. Once at the front of the line we found out that it cost $10 and we only had 4. After talking to the guy at the gate he was nice enough to let us in (it was going to be too big of a hassle to get us turned around) for free. I gave him the 4 anyhow and we went on our way. We drove all over tarnation and saw some fun light displays. The grand finale was getting to drive ON the speedway. We were very excited to see that there were funnel cakes for sale AND an ATM!!! It was a Christmas miracle or something. Here's a video of our adventure, pardon the choppy shooting, we were very low on space in the camera.

Hotdogs, cider and funnel cake made for a very delicious dinner. The rest of the ride home was pretty uneventful but once I got home I found that the internet was out. After talking to the tech support they said the hardware was dead and a new modem would get out to me on Tuesday. I had something important to do for work so I walked to a neighbors house and bribed him with jalapeno jelly to get access to his router. That stuff is like gold. The jelly, not the internet.
